Vehicle emissions testing is required annually in the 13 metro Atlanta counties in Georgia (Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Paulding and Rockdale County) in order for motorists to complete their vehicle registration.
Before You Test
Georgia’s Clean Air Force (GCAF) recommends testing your vehicle four to six weeks prior to the registration renewal date (the vehicle owner’s birthday) to allow ample time for any needed repairs and retests (see additional benefits of early testing). Please visit “How To Prepare for Your Test” to ensure your vehicle is ready for its annual emissions test. We also offer tips to avoid a long wait.
Model year vehicles 1996 through 2014 will receive an on-board diagnostics (OBD) test for 2017 registration. View our overview of an OBD test.
