Fleet Information

Vehicle fleets must undergo an emissions inspection on an annual basis despite being registered on a multi-year basis. Government-owned and company-owned vehicles, including those used by law enforcement and emergency response agencies, are not exempt under the law from the vehicle emissions testing requirements.

For registration year 2016, all 1992 – 2013 model year gasoline-powered cars and light-duty trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 8,500 pounds or less must be inspected prior to your registration date and each year thereafter. The three most recent model year vehicles are exempt from the emissions inspection requirement; for 2016, this includes all 2014 and newer model year vehicles.

Emissions inspection certification must be verified by fleet managers and are required according to the following alphabetical schedule. Vehicles are to be tested according to the first letter of the department/agency/business name, as shown on the title, in the county where the department/agency/business is located. For example, all state vehicles registered under “Georgia Department of…” must meet all emission testing requirements by April 30 of each year.
