Inspector Information and Recertification

Inspector Certification

Georgia’s Clean Air Force (GCAF) offers one inspector certification training course, which certifies inspectors to test all vehicles subject to an emissions inspection. The inspector certification training course includes instructions on performing two-speed-idle (TSI), acceleration simulation mode (ASM2), and on-board diagnostics (OBD) inspections.

Inspector Recertification

A GCAF inspector certificate is valid for two years unless suspended or revoked. The inspector must complete a recertification training class to renew his or her certification before it expires.

Inspectors will be notified via GAS message and by email at least 60 days before their certification expiration. Inspectors should apply for recertification training at least 30 days prior to their license expiry date; failure to apply at least 30 days prior to expiry negates any possible license extensions. The recertification training is a one (1) day course held at the GCAF training centers located at GCAF Central and GCAF North.

Training Class Schedule

Class start time for new inspector classes and recertification classes is 9 a.m. Students should arrive no later than 8:45 a.m. to be checked in. No one will be allowed into the class after 9 a.m. Classes end at 5 p.m.

Please note: GCAF may add additional class times during the year that are not on the training calendar. If you have been scheduled for a date that is not listed on the calendar, you should still report to class on that date.

Inclement Weather

In case of inclement weather, contact GCAF Station Assistance at 1.800.449.2471, option 2. If class has been canceled, GCAF will contact the station owner/manager to reschedule training.

No-Show Policy for New Inspector Training

  • Station owners/managers can submit and sign inspector applications.
  • Only station owners/managers can register an employee for new inspector training; the inspector cannot register himself or herself.
  • Station owners/managers are responsible for reminding their employees to attend training on the scheduled day.
  • Station owners/managers are responsible for assisting the employee with gaining base knowledge of the vehicle emissions testing process; the inspector training manual is posted on the GCAF website for anyone who wants to prepare in advance.
  • Cancellations must be emailed to industry@cleanairforce.com at least two business days in advance.
  • If a student does not show for class, a doctor’s note, police report, or any additional documentation as approved by GCAF that is signed and dated, must be submitted to GCAF in order to re-register promptly.
  • If the student cannot provide the documentation mentioned above,  he or she must wait 60 days for his or her manager to email industry@cleanairforce.com to re-register.
